When Rip Curl Cup 2005 is on - it is on!

The, six-star rated, Rip Curl Cup is the 7th contest out of ten in the 2005 Indonesian Surfing Championships (ISC), in which the surfing industry has joined forces in order to support and further develop Indonesian surfing. Throughout the series, surfers can accumulate points that, later this year, will lead to the crowning of Indonesiais best surfer.

Already in the prestigious Rip Curl Cup only the best of the best surfers will be allowed entrance, namely: the current top 16 surfers from the ISC ranking; the top-12 from a trial contest (held at Bingin on August 10); and four specially invited ewild cardsi that are yet to be announced.

Because the notorious Padang Padang only breaks on big swells, and in order to ensure top quality surfing, a waiting period of four weeks (August 19 to September 19) has been set for the Rip Curl Cup. Rip Curl Indonesia will be closely monitoring swell-forecasts and, when favorable conditions are predicted, give notice of the exact date for this surf event.

iItis great to be able to surf Padang Padang in a heat with only three other people, Hendrix said. Normally if there is big swell that spot is packed, but in the Rip Curl Cup itis almost like having the wave all to yourself.
